I'm a Doll!

My favorite Christmas gift this year, hands down, was this pair of custom dolls of my husband and I on our wedding day, made by the incredible April from Riley Construction. I love her work because she really pays attention to detail and most of her fabrics are recycled and vintage. Plus she is a dream to work with!

I had the idea ever since I saw April with her dolls at the Strange Folk Festival this past September.
The best part was that when I shared my idea with her, she seemed just as excited as I was! That always makes it more fun, when you know the artist is enjoying the work.

Here you can see my other doll by April, a little pink haired lovely.

I hope to have a much larger collection of April's dolls in the future!

It snowed! The perfect snowman kind of snow.

Merry Christmas!

Remember the true reason for our celebrating today...that our perfect and Holy God, in order to reconcile us to Himself, came as man, lived a perfect life, died a sinner's death (atoning for our sin), and rose again. How great is our God.

Our Christmas Tree

This was our first year having a larger tree, and we picked a good ol' Balsam fur.  I really enjoyed hunting for some cute vintage ornaments (especially because most of them were $1!) and although I never finished our popcorn garland (I only had 1 row left, but just couldn't fit it in!) I really like how it turned out!

I'm getting so excited for Christmas! It's officially Christmas break for me and Adam, so we are enjoying ourselves with some homemade honey Rumchata and a good movie tonight. Christmas shopping/card making is done so now it's time to relax!

Daily Outfit Doodle: Fancy Christmas Party!

Last weekend was our second Christmas party, and it was a fancy one! Our friends host it every year; last year it was just the ladies, but this year men were allowed as well! So my honey got all gussied up and we were off!

The ladies.

The men.

Also, this happened.

I definitely felt super fancy in this outfit! This is actually my first "little black dress" and I love it!  I hope it holds up well, because it's from Forever 21 and was only $25. haha. Also I loved how the red lace bow looked so much that I went back and bought it in all of the other colors (pink, white, black). I can never pass up a good bow.

Watching... two Kdramas (Korean dramas) pretty hardcore. Cheongdamdong Alice and King of Dramas. I don't know why these are so addictive but they are. You want something to marathon while it's blistery and cold outside? Kdramas are perfect. They are usually corny but wonderfully so. These two are currently airing in Korea so you can't watch the whole series, but there are plenty of amazing ones out there that are complete so you can waste your life away. Plus watching them on Viki is so fun because there are comments at the top of the screen (which you can turn off if they get annoying) so it's interactive and often makes viewing even more hilarious. And yes, they have subtitles so you know what they're saying! much tea! I don't know what it is but I've been obsessed with tea lately. Especially Christmas teas. Candy Cane Lane, Winter Snowflake, Snowbound (buttered popcorn, apples, and pears). Yum.

Listening to... the howling wind! We have severe wind advisories in effect all day (with snow!) so it's kind of miserable outside.

Looking forward to...making shortbread cookies tonight! I have a bunny cookie cutter I'm excited to try! And Christmas, obviously!

Drawing... I'm all done with my Christmas commissions (!!) so I'm enjoying this vintage book I recently picked up on how to draw houses. I definitely struggle with anything straight and technical (perspective is my least favorite element of art forever) so I'm challenging myself to draw every. single. thing. in this book. I also have a few Daily Outfit Doodles to finish up!

Reading...Grace for the Good Girl. This book speaks to me so much it's crazy. I definitely struggle with the desire to appear perfect to the people around me and seek their approval over God's all the time.

Wanting...a Blythe doll. Oh my goodness, do I have the itch. I've held off since Sophomore year of High School when I first discovered who she was, and now I don't think I can wait anymore. I'm currently researching all about them so I can find a good deal! I have dreams of a shelf of them hanging in my studio...each one with different colored hair.

*** I also wanted to quickly mention that I have a Tumblr! If you've ever wondered how nerdy I really am, well..I don't hold back there. ; ) ***

Daily Outfit Doodle: 50's Christmas Party!

..So I haven't done a daily outfit doodle in almost a year.. haha! But better late than never!

The hubby and I attended a 1950's themed Christmas Party thrown by some of our dearest friends..and it was so incredibly fun I can't even tell you. Our hostess, Corinna (pictured with me below), pulled out all the stops. There was an amazing appetizer bar, delicious drinks, AND a full course 1950's dinner. Ah-maze-ing. I swear I gained 5 lbs that night and I'm just fine with that. It was worth every bite.

We also had a vintage gift exchange and the most excellent photo booth (seriously how amazing is this vintage tablecloth backdrop?!).

(How gorgeous is my friend Taylor? just sayin.)

..and you can also see my new tattoo! I'll share closeups soon!

I had a lot of fun putting this outfit together! There was a bit of stress involved trying to find an affordable 50's vintage dress (and the selection was slim!) but when I pulled this little number off the rack and it fit (and was only $10!) I knew it was the perfect one! The design is adorable and reminds me of Christmas greens!

We have a "Fancy Christmas Party" this weekend..and then I think we are done with Holiday parties! I could do 10 more though..they are so fun!
